Environmental Consideration and Responsible Attitude
At HEREU, our commitment to the environment and society is at the heart of our design. By combining innovative approaches, traditional wisdom, and thoughtful sourcing, we strive to minimize our environmental impact.
By producing all our products in Spain, we aim to reduce our environmental footprint. This approach helps lower CO2 emissions associated with transport and fosters closer relationships with our manufacturing partners.
100% of the leather used in HEREU products is sourced from Spain or Italy and is ethically obtained as a byproduct of the food industry. By repurposing all leather, we reduce waste and contribute to a circular use of materials. Furthermore, the leather we use meets the ethical standards of the Leather Working Group, and approximately 80% of the styles we offer are made with low-impact vegetable-tanned leather.
All canvas linings are made from GOTS-certified organic cotton. We also used 100% recycled fibers for the netting featured in our Spring/Summer 2022 collection.
By working exclusively with local suppliers for materials, packaging, and raw ingredients, we reduce CO2 emissions while supporting local economies.
The footwear industry is estimated to account for 1.4% of global greenhouse gas emissions. Our locally rooted, low-impact production model is one of the practical solutions we are implementing to address this challenge.
Preserving Craftsmanship and Culture
HEREU celebrates traditional heritage through craftsmanship. Working with a network of family-run workshops across Spain, we preserve traditional techniques such as moccasin construction, espadrille stitching, and leather weaving, with each piece finished by hand.
We actively support the continuation of hand-weaving techniques that have been passed down exclusively by women since the 1970s. Although these artisanal methods are time-consuming, they enable us to create durable products that complement everyday life and endure for generations.
By valuing handcrafted production, we support skilled local artisans while helping to reduce our reliance on mass production and the environmental impact that comes with it.

Our headquarters brings together team members from diverse cultural backgrounds, including Spain, Italy, Germany, France, and the United Kingdom. Their unique perspectives enrich the brand’s vision and elevate our creativity to new levels of refinement.
